Nowadays, most P2P clients use the Gnutella P2P network. One of these clients is LimeWire. LimeWire is one of the most used P2P clients to date. It's currently at version 5.0.11, but still has a few bugs. LimeWire is mainly used for downloading music.
The majority of people who use this client are either music fanatics or people who are looking for a song. And there are A LOT of music fanatics out there.
So that's what makes LimeWire so famous. I, for one, have a different opinion about LimeWire. The most horrible things about LimeWire are: 1. Too many viruses lead to a lot of scanning. 2. LimeWire is a JAVA based client. That means that without JAVA Runtime Environment installed, you can't run LimeWire.
This guide is for people who want to install LimeWire, or for people that don't know how to set it up. Follow this guide carefully, so you don't screw up.
1. Download LimeWire Pro from here or here (if you hate RapidShare).
2. Download JAVA Runtime Environment from here. Follow the instructions on the site to download it.
3. Install JAVA by double-clicking it and then follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Once you're done installing JAVA, double-click on the LimeWire Pro installer, and then select your language.
5. Click Next.
6. Choose your preferred location for LimeWire to be installed to, then click Install.
7. Keep the box ticked, and click Finish.
8. Click on I Agree.
9. Pick whichever one suits you, but I recommend "Add Files Manually".
10. Go to Tools>Options on the menu bar.
11. Here you can choose which folders to share.
12. You can choose what to search for by default, or you can delete your search history.
13. Choose where to save your downloads here, and you can activate some additional options.
14. You can change your security options here.
15. Here are some extra options. I don't recommend touching any of these.
16. Some options for the more advanced users.
17. You're done with setting-up LimeWire! Now you can search for files. Just type in whatever you're searching for into the bar at the top of the window.
18. Click any file to start downloading it.
If you did everything correctly, LimeWire should work without a hiccup. If you liked this tutorial,, or have any questions, post a comment.
